What Sendy keeps,
and what it doesn't.
Last updated September 28, 2026
Sendy Study Tool ("Sendy", "we") is a study app run from Ontario, Canada. This page explains what personal information we collect when you use it, why, who else sees it, and what you can ask us to do with it. Questions go to hello@sendystudytool.com.
What we collect
We keep only what the app needs to work.
- Account details. Your email address, the name you give us or that your sign-in provider gives us, and a password if you set one. Passwords are stored hashed, never in plain text.
- Google sign-in. If you sign in with Google, Google sends us your name, email address, and a Google account identifier. We do not receive your Google password, and we do not store Google access tokens.
- Billing. Payments are handled by Stripe. Stripe collects your card details, billing name and address. We never see your full card number. We store your Stripe customer id, your subscription status and when the current billing period ends.
- Your study material. Files you upload (slides, PDFs, documents, recordings), text you paste, links you add, and syllabi. If you add a YouTube link we fetch that video's transcript.
- What Sendy makes for you. Notes, key notes, flashcards, practice tests and your answers, podcast audio, slide videos, your questions in Ask Sendy and the replies, and margin notes you write.
- Use of the app. The last page you were on (so the home screen can say where you left off), whether you have seen the tour, and the accent colour you picked.
- Call requests. If you ask us to call you on the parents page, we keep the first name and phone number you give us and the time of day you picked.
- Technical data. Standard server logs with your IP address, browser type and the pages requested, kept for a short time for security and debugging.
How we use it
- To run the service: sign you in, keep your classes and material, and generate study material from it.
- To bill you and manage your subscription through Stripe.
- To email you about your account, such as password resets and billing. We do not send marketing email. When someone subscribes, we also send a short internal note to the people who run Sendy.
- To call you back when you ask us to on the parents page. We use that number only for that call about Sendy, never for texts or marketing, and never share it.
- To keep the service secure and to fix problems.
We do not sell your information, and we do not show ads or use advertising trackers.
AI processing
Sendy works by sending your material to AI models. Uploaded files, pasted text, transcripts and your questions are sent to Anthropic (Claude) to write notes, tests, flashcards and answers, and to Google (Gemini) to read PDFs, images, audio and video and to produce podcast voices and video overviews. Both companies process it under their business API terms, which say they do not use customer content to train their models. We only send what is needed for the thing you asked for.
Who else sees your data
- Railway hosts the app and stores your files and data on servers in Amsterdam, in the Netherlands. Your data leaves Canada for that reason.
- Stripe processes payments and holds your billing details under its own privacy policy.
- Anthropic and Google process content for the AI features described above. Google also handles sign-in if you use it.
- Email delivery goes through our mail provider for account messages.
We share information with these providers only to do the job described, and with authorities only when the law requires it.
Cookies
Sendy sets three cookies of its own: a session cookie that keeps you signed in and expires when you
close your browser, a security cookie that protects forms against forgery, and a visitor cookie
(sendy_vid, one year) that lets us tell which page or advertisement brought you here and
how far you got. Your accent colour is stored on your account, not in a cookie.
We advertise Sendy on Meta (Facebook and Instagram) and Google. When those ads are running, our public pages load the Meta Pixel and the Google tag, which set their own cookies and tell those companies that your browser visited, signed up or bought a plan, so we can see which ads work and stop showing you ads for something you already have. We also send Meta a copy of those same three events from our server, with your email address hashed so it cannot be read, which Meta uses only to match the event to an ad click. When you ask us to call you, Meta gets a note that you did, with your phone number hashed the same way. Meta's and Google's own policies cover what they do with it. You can opt out of personalised ads in your Facebook, Instagram and Google ad settings, and a browser content blocker stops the tags loading at all.
To understand how the site is used we also run Google Analytics, which reports visits by country, device and page in aggregate, and Microsoft Clarity, which records how the public pages, the sample demo account and the sign-up pages are scrolled and clicked as heat maps and anonymised session replays. Clarity masks what you type. Neither runs inside your classes once you are signed in, so your uploaded material and notes are never recorded.
How long we keep it
- Your material and everything generated from it stay as long as your account exists. Deleting a class, unit or source removes it and what was made from it.
- If you close your account, we delete your account, material and generated content within 30 days.
- Billing records stay as long as tax and accounting rules require, and Stripe keeps its own records.
- Call requests are deleted within 90 days of the call. Ask us and we delete yours sooner.
- Server logs are kept for a short, rolling period.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us at any time to see the personal information we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it, and you can withdraw your consent to our use of it (which may mean closing your account). You can cancel your subscription from the Billing page. To close your account or make any of these requests, email hello@sendystudytool.com from the address on your account. If you are not happy with how we handled a request, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Security
Connections to Sendy are encrypted, passwords are hashed, files are served only to the account that owns them, and access to production systems is limited to the people who run Sendy. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password or sign in with Google.
Age
Sendy is built for university and college students. It is not meant for anyone under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. Everyone confirms they are 13 or older when they make an account, and we keep the time of that confirmation. If you believe a child has an account, tell us and we will remove it.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top and, for significant changes, tell you by email or in the app before they take effect.
